AC500-eCo Expanded Via Seven New PLC Devices from ABB; Adds Scalability

Offer includes three new CPU, and four new IO devices.

NEW BERLIN, WI, MARCH 8, 2010 - In modern industrial automation applications, small PLC solutions often are ideal - particularly as part of a stand-alone environment. With the introduction of the AC500-eCo, ABB has added such a product to the AC500 family.

The selection now offers an even more cost-effective solution for smaller projects. The AC500-eCo has been designed to enhance the flexible and scalable concept of the AC500 PLC line. Part of the AC500-eCo package is a comprehensive range of communication options, including Modbus master/slave or CS31, which are rarely provided with such products. The128kB user memory, and a program processing time of 0.1 µs/instruction, are just two examples of the AC500-eCo's impressive performance.

In addition to its inter-operability with the existing AC500 range, the AC500-eCo system also is configured and programmed, using the PS501 Control Builder AC500 - based on CoDeSys. This is one programming software for the whole AC500 family, which complies with the EN 61131-3 standard, including five programming languages to provide customers with a single, simple and integrated software platform.

With three new CPU and four new IO devices, ABB continues to expand the AC500-eCo offering. For example, the new CPU versions offer integrated digital and analog inputs and outputs, along with relay outputs. CPUs can be provided in 24 V DC or 100-240 V AC power supply versions, according to your requirements.

Relay and triac output modules, together with a 100-240 V AC digital input module, are added to the S500-eCo IO range. A highlight is the new IO module DX571, which combines digital inputs and relay outputs in one module - allowing customized and cost-saving application solutions.

The AC500 concept is a unique example of a flexible, future-oriented automation platform. The simple system structure, standardized interfaces and programming environment allow quick and easy configuration.

ABB (www.abb.com/plc) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 117,000 people.
