ABB Upgrades Tractebel Energía de Monterrey's Conductor NT Consoles to Symphony Plus HMI in Mexico


S+ Operations' intuitive Human-Machine Interface (HMI) system significantly improves availability and productivity for Tractebel Energía de Monterrey S. de R.L. de C.V.



Wickliffe, Ohio – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced that it has successfully commissioned a Symphony Plus (S+) control system upgrade at Tractebel Energía de Monterrey S. de R.L. de C.V.'s Carretera a Villa García Km #9 site in Villa de García, N.L.  This commissioning marks the completion of the first S+ project developed by ABB in Mexico.



Tractebel Energía de Monterrey, located in Monterrey, Mexico, belongs to the GDF Suez Group.  This group formed in 2008 as a result of the merger between Gas de France (GDF) and Suez Energy, which combined a variety of aspects of the energy value chain from production to distribution.  GDF Suez has locations in over 30 countries around the world, including Tractebel Energía de Monterrey, which has the capacity to generate 245 MW.  Along with providing energy, GDF Suez offers water and sanitation services, treatment of water engineering, and waste management to help the environment.



ABB was selected for this project due to high performance in service projects, competitive pricing, and an open communication strategy.  Tractebel Energía de Monterrey appreciated ABB's open communication and local support in case of any technical requirement. ABB's developed engineering, onsite services, and overall project execution. These were key factors that distinguished ABB in this pursuit.  With ABB's low-risk solution, the plant successfully modernized its operating environment in the most cost-effective manner, with inherent advantages of the simple, scalable, seamless and secure Symphony Plus control system.

During this project the existing Conductor NT stations were replaced with S+ Operations, ABB's modern human-machine interface (HMI), designed specifically for power and water plants.  The S+ Operations HMI solution transforms data into meaningful information and presents new and intuitive user-specific desktop displays.  It has integrated perfectly with S+ controllers, and can also be used with other ABB control families as well as third-party devices.



Tractebel Energía de Monterrey also upgraded all of their Composer workstations to the latest version.  To help with the transition, ABB provided training for use of the modernized equipment.  ABB has evolved the Symphony control system family in accordance with its long-term policy of "Evolution without Obsolescence."  Like its predecessors, Symphony Plus can meet the requirements of plant owners in all geographic markets in all types of power generation and water plants.
