In addition to being active member of Committee D18, Germaine also chairs Subcommittee D18.05 on Strength and Compressibility of Soils and is secretary of Subcommittees D18.07 on Identification and Classification of Soils, D18.91 on Standards Development and Review, and D18.93 on Terminology for Soil, Rock and Contained Fluids.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-Amy V. Germaine, senior engineer at Fugro Consultants Inc. in Houston, Texas, has received the ASTM International A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award for her significant contributions to the work of ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock.

A resident of Andover, Mass., Germaine joined ASTM International in 1998. She is an active member of Committee D18, where she serves as member at large. She also chairs Subcommittee D18.05 on Strength and Compressibility of Soils and is secretary of Subcommittees D18.07 on Identification and Classification of Soils, D18.91 on Standards Development and Review, and D18.93 on Terminology for Soil, Rock and Contained Fluids. Committee D18 recognized her work with a Special Service Award in 2009.

Germaine, who specializes in geotechnical engineering and geotechnical laboratory measurements, began her career as an engineer at Camp, Dresser & McKee Inc. in Cambridge, Mass., after earning a master's degree in geotechnical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1998. She was a staff engineer at Haley & Aldrich Inc. from 2000 to 2007, and assumed her role at Fugro in 2007.

In addition to ASTM International, Germaine is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Boston Society of Civil Engineers. She is a co-author of the textbook, "Geotechnical Laboratory Measurements for Engineers," along with her husband John Germaine, an ASTM fellow.
