BASF announces full registration of Headline AMP(TM) fungicide

New combination fungicide gives yield-driven corn growers maximum protection and Plant Health for top yield performance

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, November 12, 2009 - BASF announced today that Headline AMP(TM) fungicide has received full registration from the Environmental Protection Agency. Headline AMP is the first combination fungicide specifically developed for corn growers who want maximum protection from foliar diseases and improved Plant Health.

"Yield-driven corn growers constantly strive to prevent disease, improve Plant Health and increase yields," said Nick Fassler, Technical Marketing Manager at BASF. "Headline AMP gives growers the ability to stop disease in its tracks and help achieve the yield performance that comes from applying a fungicide containing an active ingredient with proven Plant Health."

Headline AMP is a combination of the same active ingredient in Headline® fungicide with the addition of a unique, best-in-class triazole. The result is a broad-spectrum fungicide that provides maximum protection from major diseases that can threaten yield and crop quality and improved Plant Health.

In replicated trials, Headline AMP provided consistent yield advantages over competitive products, achieving upwards of 8 bushels per acre more than other fungicides tested. (Headline AMP has excellent activity on a large number of foliar corn diseases, including anthracnose, grey leaf spot, Northern corn leaf blight, Southern corn rust and eyespot.)

"In even the toughest conditions, Headline AMP will provide excellent disease control and yield," Fassler said. "Corn treated with Headline AMP doesn't waste energy fighting off disease, which leaves more energy to spend on growth and yield production. This means healthier plants and higher yield potential."

The BASF fungicide portfolio gives growers the tools they need to help protect their crops from a variety of diseases and help maximize yield.

With the EPA registration of Headline AMP, BASF adds to its full portfolio of foliar fungicides for a variety of crops:

Headline fungicide, the most researched fungicide on the market, is registered on more than 90 crops to control more than 50 foliar diseases.

TwinLine(TM) fungicide, powered by Headline plus a unique triazole, is for wheat growers with a goal of greater than 50 bushels per acre and who want to maximize yield every year. It's the new leader in wheat for Plant Health and broad-spectrum disease control with a wide application window.

Caramba(TM) fungicide, which delivers best-in-class head scab suppression and protects cereal grains from devastating yield-robbing diseases like black point, leaf blotch, net blotch, powdery mildew, rust, scald, spot bloch, and tan spot.

Pristine® fungicide, which is labeled for use on grapes, berries, stone fruit, pome fruit, tree nuts, and carrots as well as onions and other bulb vegetables for control of the broadest range of diseases of any fungicide registered for use in specialty crops.

Additionally, BASF also has a growing portfolio of fungicide Seed Solutions, including Charter® fungicide seed treatment for excellent control of key diseases with early seed and seedling protection in wheat and grain, and Stamina® fungicide seed treatment, which relies on the same active ingredient found in Headline fungicide to give wheat and corn growers excellent disease control and improved emergence, stands and yields.
