D-M-E Company

Release date: June 8, 2009

Madison Heights, Mich. - D-M-E Company will be exhibiting its line of Internal Latch Locks at NPE 2009 in its West Hall Booth #103000. This technology was designed to ensure mold plates are positioned consistently and precisely during processing for applications using stripper plate ejection.

Stripper plates are most often found in high-cavitation, high-speed applications such as caps and closures, and offer a smoother, faster and cleaner ejection, leaving fewer ejector marks on the molded part. D-M-E's Internal Latch Locks are internally-mounted and enable one plate, or group of plates, to be latched together while the first parting line opening occurs. Then, after a predetermined amount of travel, the latch lock releases the latched plate or group of plates for the remaining parting line(s) to open.

"Internal latch locks are an essential tool for moldmakers challenged with building complex, precise molds with moving plates," says Chuck Azzopardi, D-M-E Global Business Manager for Mold Bases and Components. "Having an off-the-shelf solution that offers this level of precision is a great benefit as more and more sophisticated molds are being designed and implemented."

Currently, stripper plates are controlled with the use of springs and stripper bolts. Springs, however, wear over time, leading to continuous variance in length, both in free and compressed states. Because stripper plates are used in high-volume applications, springs wear even faster than they would in normal operating conditions.

When compared to springs, D-M-E Internal Latch Locks offer a competitive advantage to molders, saving time and cost while increasing speed and efficiency. More importantly, they ensure the mold plate will always be in the precise position to ensure optimum part quality.

D M E Internal Latch Locks are made of hardened steel for longer life and, once installed, no changes can be accidentally made to the adjustments. Two travel ranges and two center puller pin lengths are available for each of the three latch lock sizes D-M-E offers to accommodate most standard D-M-E stripper plate mold bases.

D-M-E Company is an essential mold technologies resource to customers worldwide. Through aggressive new product development, global product standardization and a powerful combination of in-house manufacturing centers of excellence and strategic global partnerships, D-M-E is helping customers succeed in changing times. The company's standard-setting, comprehensive product line-including hot runner systems; control systems; mold bases and components; mold making and molding supplies; and cold runner systems for elastomers - is backed by expert technical service every step of the way. A subsidiary of Milacron, Inc., D-M-E also manufactures and sells standard tooling for the die-casting industry. Visit www.dme.net for more information.
