Kyocera America, Inc.

Release date: September 11, 2008

124 sites now certified under the international standard for occupational health and safety management Kyocera Corporation (President: Makoto Kawamura) is proud to announce that it has more than tripled the number of sites covered under OHSAS 18001 certification - the international standard for occupational health and safety management - from 39 sites last year to 124 sites in total. This now includes nearly every production site and office of the Kyocera Corporation and subsidiaries in Japan. As a result, the scope of the system now encompasses approximately 28,000 employees, an increase of roughly 9,000 from the number of employees covered last year.

The 85 sites additionally certified this year include many of the main management centers and sales offices of the Kyocera Corporation and domestic Kyocera Group subsidiaries.

OHSAS 18001 is regarded as the international standard for occupational health and safety, which aims to prevent hazards and ensure the safety of workers by managing risks related to occupational health and safety. Many corporations are now actively acquiring certification.

In April 2005, the Kyocera Group launched its Environment & Safety Management System based on OHSAS 18001, and has since been actively promoting the introduction and operation of OHSAS 18001 to create a corporate culture that makes the health and safety of its employees a priority.

Since implementation in October 2005, Kyocera has identified various risks concerning occupational health and safety, and has taken concrete measures that have resulted in a decline in the number of work related accidents. Kyocera will continue to use the system effectively and will strive to eliminate the risks associated with occupational health and safety in order to ensure a work environment where employees can work safely and securely.

Date Additional Certification Obtained: September 9, 2008

Features of Kyocera's Environment & Safety Management System

In an effort to establish a thorough system based on the international standards (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001), Kyocera has integrated the two into the Kyocera Group Integrated Environment & Safety Management System. Although the two standards are independent and divergent, they share a number of similarities, such as document management. By combining these two standards, Kyocera is able to enjoy the benefits of streamlined systems operations, and simplified maintenance and management. Structured as an integrated system into Kyocera Group management, the goal is to obtain OHSAS 18001 certification for all the group's Japan-based facilities.
