IDI Composites International

Release date: September 19, 2008

September 19, 2008

NOBLESVILLE, INDIANA (USA)- IDI Composites International, the premier global formulator and manufacturer of thermoset molding compounds, offers 46-16-60, a lowtoxicity, low-smoke, and low-flammability sheet molding compound (SMC) that meets the most stringent standards of the Rapid Transit industry. The lightweight material offers superior electrical insulation and heat resistance, allowing it to withstand prolonged exposure to the elevated temperatures and high voltage common in electrical applications in the global Rapid Transit market. Common uses include third rail electrical applications in rapid transit, suburban commuter, and light rail systems.

Thermoset materials, such as IDI Composites 46-16-60 SMC, have Comparative Tracking Index (CTI) values exceeding 600 volts and dielectric strengths in excess of 15 kv/mm. The material also offers high impact strength and the ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Common applications for IDI Composites 46-16-60 SMC include third rail insulators and canopies, stand-off insulators, contactors, and traction motor brush holders.
