Craters & Freighters

Release date: October 6, 2008

Industry Leader in Packing and Shipping High-Value, Fragile Goods

STERLING, Va., Oct. 6 -- Craters & Freighters, the national leader in specialty freight solutions, announced today the opening of its franchise location in Washington, DC, in response to the area's high demand for the packing and shipping of large, valuable, and fragile goods.

"We receive frequent calls from customers interested in specialty freight services either to or from the Washington, DC area," said Diane Gibson, Craters & Freighters founder and president. "Because of Washington's strong government contracting and technology industries, as well as its vibrant tourism market, where visitors seek to take a bit of history home with them, we saw tremendous potential in this market."

Craters & Freighters was founded in 1990 to meet the needs of businesses and consumers for specialty freight handling, including pick-up, crating, shipping, tracking, insuring and delivery of shipments that are too heavy, oversized, valuable, awkward, and time-sensitive for other shipping agencies. The company serves consumers and businesses from 67 locations nationwide in all sectors including telecommunications, electronics, medical equipment, aerospace, biotechnology, and artwork and antiques.

Some of the unique, valuable, and challenging shipments the company has handled include:

o $13 million worth of paintings by masters including Van Gogh and Rembrandt, which were shipped from a locked vault in Florida to a locked vault in Switzerland o A complete F-15 flight simulator, which was shipped from an Air Force base in Florida to one in Texas in 32 crates ranging in size from 20' x 12' to 3' x 3' o A $195,000 full-size, wooden carved Ferrari for a luxury hotel in Las Vegas

The Washington, DC location was purchased by Dave Levine, owner of Craters & Freighters of Northern Virginia, which was established in 2003. Craters & Freighters of Northern Virginia, which was selected by the Craters & Freighters Franchise Advisory Council as Franchisee of the Year in 2007, serves a wide variety of clients, including most of the largest technology firms and prime government contractors.

Craters & Freighters of Washington, DC is located at 22650 Executive Drive, Suite 119, Sterling, VA 20166. The phone number is 202-237-SHIP (7447) or 877-796-0180. For more information about Craters & Freighters, visit http://www.cratersandfreighters.com/.
