OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH

Santa Clara, CA (August 13, 2008) - Effective July 1, 2008, Elke Eckstein assumed the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH in Regensburg, Germany. Her predecessor, Jörg Thäle, who held the post from 2006 to April 2008, has moved to the parent company, OSRAM GmbH, where he holds the position of CEO of the Low Pressure Discharge Business Unit.

Elke Eckstein brings more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor sector to her new position, as well as extensive specialist knowledge. Most recently, she was Vice President, Manufacturing, at AMD in Dresden where she was responsible for day-to-day operations at the world's most efficient semiconductor factory, F30/38. In her new position, Eckstein assumes responsibility for worldwide production - a key position in the rapidly growing semiconductor sector.

Elke Eckstein, a native of Franconia, has several years of experience in management roles with prominent semiconductor manufacturers. Before moving to AMD, she was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for three years at ALTIS Semiconductor, a joint venture between IBM and Infineon. As COO at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, she is returning to her professional roots, having started her career in the Semiconductor Division of Siemens in Munich. She has shown her strengths in technology development and product engineering at ProMOS Technology, an earlier joint venture between Infineon and Mosel Vitelic based in Taiwan.
