Brazilian Packaging Leader Installs Davis-Standard PET Sheet System

(Pawcatuck, Conn.)--Neoform S.A, a leading producer of food packaging in Brazil, recently installed a Davis-Standard, LLC sheet system to support demand for the company's PET-based product line, including a new product by the trade name of Formplast, a decorative laminate for internal and external furniture surfaces. Neoform, located in Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil, is best known for its durable and attractive food-packaging products including transparent deli and bakery containers. Most recently, the company added the aforementioned Formplast product line as well as a line of colored plates, ribbed dishes and plastic containers with hinged lids.
This is our first Davis-Standard sheet line and we have been pleased with its performance, said Sergio Mendes Ribeiro, Neoform's founder and owner. We chose Davis-Standard because of quality equipment and a good reputation. This system has been very effective at processing our varied range of PET-based products.
The new system, extruders through winder, is the largest PET sheet system Davis-Standard has supplied in Brazil. Advantages include the XP Express" roll stand, differential shaft winding for winding two webs on one shaft, and the capability to run non-dried, 100 percent post-consumer flake. The XP Express has been especially beneficial, offering Neoform the versatility to handle applications requiring lamination, protective film, solution coating, auxiliary cooling and embossing. Although the system is engineered to primarily process PET, it can also run PLA, PP and HIPS.
A few years ago, we saw a similar system at a Davis-Standard customer's plant, added Ribeiro. We knew with the addition of our Formplast product line that a system like this would be beneficial for our operation. This is our first Davis-Standard line and we would definitely consider purchasing another should our business require it.
