2D to 3D Move Made to Reduce Design Errors and Rework
PLANO, Texas, May 19, 2008 - Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced Patella Manufacturing Inc., a leading manufacturer of architectural millwork and custom office furniture, purchased 24 seats of Solid EdgeŽ 3D CAD software from Siemens PLM Software partner Designfusion, a focused technology solution provider to the Canadian manufacturing and design community.
Patella selected Solid Edge over competitive solutions from SolidWorks and Autodesk. Solid Edge is the core CAD component of the Velocity Series(TM), Siemens PLM Software's portfolio for the mid-market.
"Solid Edge will reduce both design errors and rework we experienced with 2D AutoCAD and will enhance communication between engineering and manufacturing," said Darlo Pack, executive vice president, Patella. "Solid Edge also proved to be the best option for handling our legacy 2D data."
Patella also based its investment decision on future needs for integrated product data management (PDM) TeamcenterŽ Express is the collaborative PDM product in the Velocity Series.
"We are growing and recognize that we need more than just design solutions from our technology provider," said Pack. "We prefer working with one source for those multiple technologies and Siemens was the only provider with that option."
"Patella's vision impressed us and creates an opportunity to build a technology partnership based on advanced integrated solutions that, until recently, were only available to very large companies," said Kevin Johnstone, president of Designfusion.
"Designfusion excels in its customer relationships and in its ability to articulate the business value of our products, key factors that ensure long-term success for their manufacturing customers in Canada," said Phil Taylor, vice president, Canada operations, Siemens PLM Software. "The combination of Designfusion and Siemens PLM Software provides manufacturers with a premium combination of technology and support."
