Smart Sourcing Expands Operation to Include Medical Manufacturing and Assembly Services
LONG ISLAND, NY -- Smart Sourcing, Inc., (SSI) the manufacturing cost reduction company, has added a new division that will enable companies in the United States to outsource medical device component manufacturing and assembly to Asia by using SSI's Support-Sourcing(TM) program. The announcement was made by David Hale, president, Smart Sourcing, Inc.
SSI enables clients to reduce the cost of product manufacturing through its proprietary network of facilities in China. Savings can range from 30 percent up to 80 percent, if the product is labor intensive.
Hale and his manufacturing and design staffers, both in the United States and in China, are fully aware of the concerns companies have with outsourcing, including loss of control, diminished quality and production errors.
"SSI has been fully embedded in China for nearly a decade. We knew early on that the only way to succeed was to scrutinize and qualify the plants and personnel and have an on-site presence," he explained.
While manufacturers in China have made significant improvements in medical device technology and product quality recently, the real challenge, according to Hale, is to identify the correct factory and thoroughly manage the product at any stage.
"Before announcing our new division, we instituted a test program of producing OEM medical components including injection molded items, printed circuit board assemblies and various sub-assemblies along with providing full box-build assembly. This enabled us to confirm the manufacturing capabilities and, most importantly for this market, the quality system that is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified."
According to Hale, the company has Class I, II and III clean room environment capabilities.
He also said that the new division is set up to work with an OEM at any point from manufacturing to assembly and packaging.
The New York-based firm offers the solution for tooling, plastics processing, metal stamping, die casting, electronic assembly and commercial printing services. With more than 80 pre-qualified vendors throughout China, and SSI-staffed regional offices in Shanghai and Ningbo, Smart Sourcing provides a true hands-on approach, unlike commonly found brokers who receive a commission from the factory.
From assistance with product design and development for optimum manufacturability to shipping of the quality-approved part, the SSI support staff in China includes some 26 project engineers, quality control specialists and logistics coordinators who provide oversight throughout the entire manufacturing process.
