MathStar

Release date: February 19, 2008

MathStar, Inc. Chips Support LodgeNet's Move Into High-Definition Television Services for the Hospitality Industry

HILLSBORO, Ore., Feb. 19 -- MathStar, Inc. (NASDAQ:MATH), a fabless semiconductor company specializing in high-performance programmable logic, today announced that the MPEG-4 to MPEG-2 high-definition (HD) transcoder system manufactured by LG Electronics for LodgeNet has been certified for use in hospitality businesses. The transcoder is built around MathStar's latest Arrix(TM) family of field programmable object array (FPOA) chips.

"We are very happy to support LodgeNet in its goal to enable existing MPEG-2 televisions to receive MPEG-4 originated programming," said Dan Sweeney, COO of MathStar. "The 800 MHz Arrix FPOAs in the LG Transcoder product represent some of the highest performance programmable logic devices in the market today."

"We are very pleased with MathStar's commitment to the success of our customers and the rollout of new HD programming for the hospitality business," said David M. Bankers, senior vice president, Product and Technology Development at LodgeNet. "MathStar went above and beyond the role of a traditional chip supplier to make sure we hit our performance and time-to-market goals. They treated us as a valued customer even though they were not selling us chips directly."

The LG Transcoder system will be available for deployment in the first quarter of 2008.
