Gas Turbine offers improved efficiency.

GE Energy

Unique Unit Runs on Syngas with a High Hydrogen Content

HOUSTON, TEXAS - December 4, 2007 : - Europe's largest landfill will utilize a GE Energy aeroderivative gas turbine to meet a customer's unique fuel requirement in Italy.

GE Energy has been selected by CO.LA.RI. S.p.a. to supply the Malagrotta Power Plant in Rome, Italy, with one LM2500+G4 water-injected gas turbine generator, along with a 12-year service agreement.

The GE Energy LM2500+G4 gas turbine generator is rated at approximately 32 megawatts at site elevation and 15 degrees Celsius ambient temperature. The unit will operate in combined cycle and be capable of running on either high hydrogen synthesis gas (syngas) or natural gas. As the primary fuel, the syngas will be generated from a patented gasification system where the garbage is converted into high hydrogen syngas after being processed through a 1600 degree Celsius reactor. In order to meet environmental requirements, a water injection system will control nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions down to 200 mg/Nm3.

"This GE LM2500+G4 has excellent fuel flexibility by design. The package and combustion systems are being adapted and optimized for this low BTU fuel," said Charles (Chip) Blankenship, general manager of GE Energy's aeroderivative business. "We are pleased to support the Malagrotta Power Plant in providing a unit capable of operating on this renewable fuel source. This opportunity further demonstrates the willingness of GE Energy to work with customers to provide environmentally friendly equipment that is flexible in meeting their site-specific needs."

The LM2500+G4 will be packaged at the GE facility in Houston, Texas, and shipped in November 2008. The anticipated commercial operation date for the facility will be in June 2009.

GE Energy's aeroderivative business is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines and packaged generator sets for industrial and marine applications. The company provides power-generating equipment to utilities, industries and marine fleets throughout the world. It is also the world's largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service provider.
