J&L Industrial Supply Opens New State-of-the-Art Showroom Service Center In Livonia, Michigan Livonia, Michigan. (October 19, 2007). J&L Industrial Supply, a subsidiary of MSC Industrial Direct Co., Inc., held a Grand Opening celebration on September 19th for their new state-of-the-art showroom at 13599 Merriman Road in Livonia, Michigan. The store has been open since the end of May. The new showroom replaces the J&L Industrial Supply showroom that was at 31800 Industrial Road, Livonia, MI.
When asked what is different about the new J&L Industrial Supply showroom, Doug Jones, Senior Vice President of Logistics, commented, "We designed the new showroom from the bottom up. We started by talking with customers to determine what was most important to them and what they would like to have in a showroom. They told us they wanted to be sure the items they most frequently purchased would be in stock and that the showroom be conveniently laid out to make it easy to find the products they needed. We started with a computer order analysis, to determine the right products and inventory levels to have available at the showroom, to maximize the number of complete customer orders we could fill. We also added a computer station where customers can browse both the MSC Industrial Supply and J&L Industrial Supply catalogs online, place electronic orders, and access technical data and product specifications."
When asked about the store layout and design, Doug Jones stated, "With the new showroom, we wanted to make the shopping experience better and more convenient for our customers. We hired PPC Retail Design of Novi, MI, a nationally recognized store design firm to assist us in the design. The new showrooms have better lighting, all new shelving which better displays products, and we've reorganized our inventory, store layout and product sections in a way that makes it much easier for customers to find the products they are looking for. The new showroom also incorporates a large screen plasma television that plays short, informational videos, providing valuable product and usage information. The initial feedback we have received from customers is that they really find the new layout much better for locating what they need and the state-of-the-art technology puts much more information at their fingertips, helping them find the right products."
