Alcoa Fastening Systems - AFS

Release date: March 20, 2009

Fullerton, California... Alcoa Fastening Systems' (AFS) Assembly Tool Systems division is expanding their product line to include Makita cordless power tools with K-Fast® gear head attachments for both torque controlled and non-torque controlled tools for nuts and frangible collar applications. The K-Fast® gear head attachments have long been an industry standard and recently won approval from Boeing using the Makita cordless platform for torque controlled applications.

Makita cordless tools are steadily emerging as the fastening system of choice within the assembly and manufacturing industries, and are already Boeing certified. With Six Sigma accuracy in the K-Fast® gear heads the cordless tools offer reduced energy costs, the flexibility to roam between and access tight work spaces, as well as offering an uncluttered workspace without the maze of air hoses and electric cords. They are ergonomically designed and offer significant cost savings when compared with pneumatic alternatives.

AFS torque and non-torque controlled tools are available in pistol grip configurations or on straight motors with 17° angle head attachments. Both configurations offer a gear head attachment that can be rotated 360° to reach the most difficult applications.

The non-torque controlled assembly tools for frangible collars also come in kit form with quick change sockets for installing multiple fastener diameters. The "kits" are popular for MRO, military and smaller job shops where one tool can do the job of three or four tools.

Alcoa Fastening Systems, a business unit of Alcoa, is a leading worldwide designer and manufacturer of specialty fasteners, nut and frangible collar systems, fluid fittings, assembly components and installation tools for aerospace and commercial applications. Headquartered in Torrance, California, the company has 6,900 employees, and manufactures at 21 locations in 9 countries. AFS also operates 7 worldwide distribution/logistics centers providing value-added services.

Makita is a worldwide manufacturer of industrial quality power tools, and offers a wide range of industrial accessories. Makita applies leading-edge innovation to produce tools that are stronger, lighter, more powerful and easier to use. Makita USA, Inc. is located in La Mirada, California and operates an extensive distribution network located throughout the U.S.
