Moving Forward with Safety: Conference Focuses on Developments in Robot and Machine Safety



RIA's 21st Annual National Robot Safety Conference Examines the Latest in Standards, Technology and Products

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (September 1, 2009) - As robotic applications continue to expand in North America, the Robotic Industries Association (RIA) and a group of industry-leading sponsor companies will host the National Robot Safety Conference XXI. The event takes place October 26-28, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn (Detroit, Michigan). Experienced users and those new to safety will benefit from the wide array of session topics and standards' updates presented during the week.

According to RIA President, Jeff Burnstein, "Safety is a top priority for everyone involved in the robotics industry. This annual conference is the best place to learn about the latest safeguarding strategies and industry standards, as well as meeting companies with the most advanced safety products."

RIA's director of standards development, Jeff Fryman, said attendees will gain an understanding of the various safety standards through the detailed workshop and conference sessions presented by safety experts and specialists from business and government. Fryman explained, "No other program offers so much in-depth coverage on practical safety topics. And the tabletop trade fair (October 27) will enable attendees to compare the latest robots, accessories, safety products and vendors, all within the same room."

The conference includes new workshops on Cost Justification, an Introduction to Robot Vision, Essential Safety Controls and a Primer on Functional Safety. A new conference session, Lean and Safe Robot Cells, combines with presentations on Updating Safety Standards, Selecting Safeguards and an OSHA View on Robot Safety. Case studies and a standards committee panel presentation will also be featured.

"There is a pent-up demand for training, yet many companies are faced with budget restrictions," said Jim Adams, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for RIA.
