T. Boone Pickens to Speak at Project Management Institute Global Congress 2009 - North America

Project Management Institute, Inc.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., June 29 -- Project Management Institute (PMI), the leading association for project management, announces T. Boone Pickens will be featured as the keynote speaker for PMI(R) Global Congress 2009 - North America to be held 10-13 October in Orlando, Florida.

T. Boone Pickens is one of the nation's most successful businessmen. He founded the nation's largest independent oil company, Mesa Petroleum, and later reinvented himself in his 70s as one of the most successful investment fund operators with BP Capital.

As North American dependency on foreign oil imports continue to rise, gasoline prices further stress a sluggish economy, forcing the search for alternative energy. In his keynote address, Pickens plans to deliver a comprehensive solution for what North America should do to decrease its increasing reliance on foreign oil, which he calls a looming threat to national security and the economy. He will offer open and candid responses to audience questions about the country's dependence on imported oil while providing details on how to dramatically enhance energy security.

"Reducing our dependency on fossil fuel is not only the smart thing to do from a North American cost standpoint. Moreover, it's the right thing to do from a global sustainability perspective," remarked Gregory Balestrero, president and CEO of PMI. "This is especially critical to managers of all types of projects. The project manager of tomorrow must manage in an environmentally and socially responsible way. T. Boone Pickens, who is never shy about expressing his opinions on this subject, is sure to be an enlightening and intriguing speaker at our annual North American event," Balestrero continued.

CNBC has dubbed Pickens "Oracle of Oil" for his uncanny knack of predicting oil price movements. His many professional honors include membership in the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, the Texas Business Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. In 1998, Oil & Gas Investor listed him as one of the "100 Most Influential People of the Petroleum Century." He was named one of world's 100 most influential people in 2009 by TIME.

PMI(R) Global Congress 2009 - North America will take place at the Gaylord Palms on 10-13 October. Registration for the event is now available online at http://congresses.pmi.org/NorthAmerica2009/TheCongress/Registration/. In addition to being a venue for project management education and networking, PMI's Global Congress is a meeting point for experts and project practitioners at all levels to discuss the most challenging project management trends. This year's educational topics include: advanced project management skills, communications, consulting skills, general business skills, government, industry specific issues, new project management trends, professional development, project management foundation skills, project management issues, project management tools, research, sales/marketing skills and teaming.
