ASTM Offers Training Course on Corrosion Testing

ASTM International

Release date: November 21, 2008

Application and Use of Salt Fog, Humidity, Cyclic, and Gas Tests

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 21 November 2008-"Corrosion Testing: Application and Use of Salt Fog, Humidity, Cyclic, and Gas Tests" is a two-day hands-on Technical and Professional Training course presented by ASTM International. First used in 1914, the salt fog test is still the most widely applied corrosion test; however, it is often misused and misapplied. This ASTM course will provide a clear understanding of the proper application of ASTM B117 and will furnish information regarding corrosion testing in general so that attendees can understand the significance of the salt fog test.

Participants will learn how to properly operate salt fog apparatus; the "whys" and "hows" of salt fog testing; and will gain valuable hands-on experience. Demonstrations will also be given on mixing solutions, cleaning coupons and samples, evaluation of results and samples, and B117 corrosion test equipment. The course is intended for corrosion technicians, product test personnel, laboratory supervisors and users of B117.

The course will be held three times in 2009: May 12-13, at the University of Akron Polymer Training Center in Akron, Ohio; Sept. 29-30, 2009, at ASTM International headquarters in West Conshohocken, Pa.; and Nov. 3-4 in Chicago, Ill. The $895 attendance fee includes ASTM B117 and ASTM D1193, Standard Specification for Reagent Water, and a publication on How to Run a Salt Spray Test by instructor Raymund Singleton. The fee also includes course notes, a certificate of attendance, 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and refreshment breaks.

To register or for a free brochure describing the course, contact Eileen Finn, ASTM International, West Conshohocken, Pa. (phone: 610-832-9686; fax: 610-832-9668; efinn@astm.org); or visit the ASTM home page at www.astm.org.

This course can be tailored to your company's needs and can be brought by ASTM International to your site. Contact Scott Murphy, ASTM International (610-832-9685; smurphy@astm.org) for details.
