Spartech Corporation Featured in Special on "History of Oil"; Parkinson Winder Appears in Clip

Woonsocket, RI (November 21, 2008) ... A recent episode of the History Channel television series "Modern Marvels" shows a clip of a Parkinson Technologies winder in action. The winder is in service at the Spartech Corporation plastics plant in La Mirada, CA.

Spartech Corporation, a producer of engineered thermoplastic sheet materials, thermoformed packaging, polymeric compounds, and engineered products, was featured in the program as the leading sheet extruder in North America. The one hour long show detailed the history of the oil industry and featured segments showing the variety of products produced from oil, which included plastic.

Modern Marvels highlighted plastics manufacturing in action by showing sheet extrusion that featured a Parkinson winder as the final stage of rollstock production. By presenting this process, viewers were able to see a Parkinson winder winding sheet into rollstock and a first hand view of plastic sheet extrusion from start to finish. The goal was to show viewers how plastic pellets produced from oil are processed from raw material into finished goods.
