Northrop Grumman, ITT, Raytheon Recognized with Industry Safety Awards Aerospace Industries Association Release date: November 18, 2008
Phoenix, Ariz. - Northrop Grumman won two different categories of the 2008 AIA Worker Safety Awards, and ITT and Raytheon also took honors in the third annual installment of the awards, which were announced Tuesday.
Northrop Grumman, based in Los Angeles, was recognized for having the lowest injury and illness rate in two of the three categories of the awards - Aircraft Manufacturing and Aerospace Components.
Raytheon, of Waltham, Mass., took the award for the final category, Missile and Space Vehicles.
The three category awards are based on low workplace injury and illness rates as well as positive safety program elements for each company's U.S. operations.
ITT, based in White Plains, N.Y., won the award for the most progress in worker safety from 2006 to 2007. The company showed the greatest reduction in incident rates and lost workday rates.
AIA President and CEO Marion Blakey said the three companies are excellent examples of the premium the aerospace industry places on safety.
"All of you should be very proud of your accomplishments," Blakey said after recognizing the winners during the AIA Board of Governors meeting. "And our entire industry should be proud of a truly enviable track record on worker safety."
