(Huntersville, November 6, 2008) At the Tech-Pol factory in Morro d'Alba, Italy, eleven plastic injection molding presses produce a variety of items. Until early 2008, the parts were transferred to a central control and packaging area either manually or by means of belt conveyors, but this process was inefficient and unreliable.
Tech-Pol was looking for a more sophisticated intralogistic solution to minimize operations that provided no added value. It was also necessary to optimize production with a fast transport system and a cleaner working environment.
Since January 2008, a Montrac system has been connecting all presses to the central control and packaging area. 24 Shuttles convey 2,600 boxes per day, with each shuttle traveling a distance of approximately 12 miles daily. Every 33 seconds, a shuttle passes the unloading station and, after depositing the products, waits for the next call.
Tasks are assigned according to the principle of Chaos Technology, meaning any shuttle can be sent to any press. Due to space constraints - some presses are placed just 20 inches from the wall - Montrac turned out to be the only viable solution for this customer.
It is estimated that the shuttles cover a total distance of 93,000 miles annually.
