U.S. Steel Tubular Products

Release date: November 17, 2008

HOUSTON, Nov. 11 /-- U. S. Steel Tubular Products, Inc., a subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X), announced that Diemer True, founder and chairman of the Diamond Companies of Wyoming, is the recipient of its Chief Roughneck Award for 2008. The announcement was made today at the Independent Petroleum Association of America's annual meeting.

The prestigious Chief Roughneck Award was created in 1955 to honor the lifetime achievements of petroleum industry leaders. Today, U. S. Steel Tubular Products proudly continues to present this important award, which is widely recognized as one of the industry's highest honors.

Joe Alvarado, president of U. S. Steel Tubular Products, presented True with the coveted bronze bust and traditional hard hat and commended him for his commitment to the ideals represented by the award. "Diemer True has been one of the energy industry's strongest advocates for many years," said Alvarado. "His dedication, perseverance, ingenuity, leadership and integrity in every situation remind us all of what it takes to be successful and ensure the continued growth and prosperity of our industry."

True formed the Diamond Companies with his sons, Kip and Kyle, after he worked with his father and brothers for 38 years in the Casper, Wyoming-based True Companies. He is also a former chairman of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, served in the Wyoming state legislature from 1972 to 1992, was chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party from 1993 to 1997, and has been Wyoming Republican National Committeeman since 1998. True is also well known in Wyoming as a rancher and a dedicated civic leader.

Diemer True is the second person to be named Chief Roughneck whose father also received the award. H. A. "Dave" True was named Chief Roughneck in 1965. H. L. Hunt (1966) and his son, Ray (2005), were the first father-son Chief Roughneck honorees.

U. S. Steel Tubular Products, Inc., a subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation, is the largest tubular products manufacturer in North America, with total annual production capability of 2.8 million net tons. U. S. Steel Tubular Products and its related divisions produce a broad portfolio of seamless, welded and specialty tubular products and offer customers a wide array of finishing services.
