ALA launches lab automation educational event.


October 22, 2008 - Partnering with Pioneer Hi-Bred and Syngenta Seeds, ALA will launch 2008 ALA Spotlight Series at Michigan State and Iowa State Universities. Concentrated, scientific-based educational sessions will highlight putting automation and technology to work in the laboratory. Series is open to people who work in, or aspire to work in, drug discovery and development, clinical diagnostics, agriculture and food, forensics and security, energy generation and petrochemicals, and other related disciplines.

Free Lab Automation Educational and Networking Event to be Held at Michigan State and Iowa State Universities

CHICAGO - Keeping with its mission to advance science and education related to laboratory automation, the Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA) has launched the 2008 ALA Spotlight Series. ALA will partner with Pioneer Hi-Bred and Syngenta Seeds to offer a high-caliber scientific learning experience at both Michigan State University and Iowa State University.

"The ALA Spotlight Series is an excellent way to tap into the knowledge, insights and experiences of scientists immersed in the day-to-day action in the laboratory," says ALA President James Sterling, Ph.D. "Attendees can get up to speed on the latest information as well as take advantage of this great career development and networking opportunity, all at no cost."

The 2008 ALA Spotlight Series offers concentrated, scientific-based educational sessions that highlight putting automation and technology to work in the laboratory. The Series is open to postdoctoral associates, graduate students, undergraduate students, academicians and government personnel, researchers, engineers, and business professionals who work in, or aspire to work in, drug discovery and development, clinical diagnostics, agriculture and food, forensics and security, energy generation and petrochemicals, and all other related disciplines.

2008 Spotlight Series Locations:
Michigan State University: Thursday, Nov. 6, 2:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Sessions include:
"A Long Way to Go and a Short Time to Get There - Meeting the High Throughput Demands and Short Deadlines Associated with Transgenic Plant Characterization"
"Technology-Key to a Successful Plant Breeding Pipeline"

Iowa State University: Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Sessions include:
"Taking Research and Development to the Next Level by Combining Traditional Engineering with Molecular Biology"
"Technology-Key to a Successful Plant Breeding Pipeline" Both locations will provide a post-program ice cream social, where attendees can network and informally interact with the scientists and career development specialists from both Pioneer Hi-Bred and Syngenta Seeds. The event will conclude with a LabAutomation2009 Raffle. One winner at each location will receive complimentary conference registration, flight, and hotel accommodations for LabAutomation2009 to be held in Palm Springs, CA, Jan. 24-28. LabAutomation2009 is the premier cross-industry conference and exhibition on emerging laboratory automation strategies and technologies bringing together approximately 5,000 laboratory automation scientists, academicians, business leaders and students from around the globe.
