MELBOURNE, Fla., September 22, 2008 -- EMX and NEC collaborated to supply a new uncooled, 640 x 480 thermal camera that supported data collection of the STS-124 launch of the Shuttle DISCOVERY in May, 2008.
Tim Arion, CEO said: "Details of the collected thermal imagery have been sensitive until now since the recorded imagery documented launch damage to the bricks in the firepit underneath the Shuttle. Since STS-124 was the heaviest payload to ever lift off from the Launch Pad, the Shuttle spent longer than normal to create enough thrust to get off the Pad. This resulted in the damager to the firepit ... some of which was captured on thermal video during the launch."
EMX integrated the new NEC uncooled thermal detector into a standard EMX housing and had the completed camera ready for the STS-124 launch in 5 days from the receipt of the NASA order. Several more of these thermal cameras will be installed in support of the STS-125 launch in October, 2008.
EMX has manufactured and integrated over 3000 day/night camera systems since 1998. EMX's thermal-imaging cameras operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and offer protection to people and facilities in all branches of the U.S. military, federal agencies, state and local law enforcement, ports and harbors as well as leading global oil and gas corporations.
