India's First Flame Detector Uses an Array of 256 Infrared Sensors Integrated

With CCTV to Pinpoint Fire Source Location Accurately And Allow Visual Verification

High Detection Capabilities Can Penetrate Fog and Driving Rain to Detect Flame and Report Fire Source Location

BANGALORE, India, Aug. 13 -- Tyco Fire & Security launched FLAMEVision FV300, the first flame detector in India that uses an infrared array with 256 infrared sensors and integrated CCTV, to identify flame incidents automatically and reliably and to accurately pinpoint fire sources on a video image. With intelligent software, it can discriminate between flame and non-flame sources. This critical information allows its operators to visually verify the alarm and implement appropriate action immediately.

In hazardous industry applications among combustible materials, protecting high value assets and ensuring the safety of the employees are top priorities. The FLAMEVision FV300 is specifically designed to protect high-risk businesses and will greatly benefit the most demanding applications in power, marine, offshore, petrochemical, and oil and gas industries.

"The lack of visual information on the exact source of any fire incident is a major problem faced by operators around the world," said Jan Johansson, Vice President, Strategic Fire Sales & Marketing, Tyco Fire & Security Asia. "This leads to delays in initiating the appropriate action such as shutting down the plant, and such unverified actions may cost companies millions of dollars. With FLAMEVision, operators will know exactly where the detector is reporting an alarm and a swift decision can be made before the fire spreads."

"Investing in effective and reliable flame detectors is crucial for hazardous and critical industries where assets and people are at great risk. The revolutionary FLAMEVision is independent of weather, visibility and lighting conditions that can affect CCTV. This means that it can detect flame under adverse weather conditions," Jan added.

The FLAMEVision FV300 offers unparalleled benefits for customers in hazardous and critical industries by means of these features:

o Situational Awareness

It can accurately provide location information of the fire event by referencing the infrared sensing array cells that register alarms and by superimposing a CCTV image with the alarm data highlighted. This ensures the most appropriate action can be deployed quickly.

o Alarm Reliability

The algorithms within the FLAMEVision FV300's advanced software are highly tuned to discriminate between flame and non-flame sources. The detector can analyze the images formed on different parts of the array and track each source to assess the likelihood of it being an actual fire before triggering an alarm. This inherent feature of the infrared array together with the ability to mask array cells results in a detector with an unrivalled false alarm rejection capability.

o Consistent Sensitivity Across the Field of View

The range of FLAMEVision FV300 is consistent across the field of view, unlike ultraviolet/infrared or triple-channel infrared detectors where the range reduces as the target moves away from the axis. The presence of blackbodies in the field of view can be tracked and will only affect the array cells in that part of the field of view. The sensitivity of unaffected array cells maintains their sensitivity and range.

o 24-Hour Protection in Exposed Locations

It can report the location of fire under adverse weather conditions and even under reduced visibility. Its high detection capability using infrared will penetrate fog and driving rain to detect the fire location.

o Forensic Audit of Events

It can track and output information on the target sources over time and consequently store information about an incident prior to any alarm. The tracking of hot infrared sources allows staff to understand any hot body changes that take place from one maintenance period to another while giving facilities operators advance warning of a potential flame situation.

FLAMEVision FV300 was first launched in Singapore in June this year.
