IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries

Release date: June 18, 2008

New IPC SMEMA Council Leadership Sets Sights on Benefits to All Members, Big and Small

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, June 18, 2008 - IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries® announces the election of John Hartner, executive vice president, Dover Technologies, as IPC Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturers Association (SMEMA) Council Steering Committee chairman and Leo van de Vall, president and CEO, Assembléon America, Inc., as committee vice chairman.

As the dynamics of the electronics industry continue to change and become even more challenging, Hartner looks to engage all industry segments in facilitating success for IPC members. "Our ability to cooperate in solving industry-wide issues benefits everyone in the supply chain including customers, suppliers and channel partners," said Hartner. "Leo and I hope to lead SMEMA to be more global and more valuable to all members, big and small."

In his role as executive vice president at Dover, Hartner has strategic and operational oversight for a number of businesses that serve the electronics, semiconductor and alternative energy fields. Hartner is also the CEO of Everett Charles Technologies, a world leader in test interface technologies.

Van de Vall serves as president and CEO of Assembléon America, which provides automation solutions for the electronics manufacturing industry with a focus on pick and place machines.

The IPC SMEMA Council is made up of suppliers to the electronics assembly industry, particularly equipment manufacturers. It initiates and drives technical, managerial, and financial programs to improve supply chain efficiencies and enhance working relationships and equipment compatibility within the industry.

The council also plays a key role in the organization of IPC's annual APEX EXPO(TM) show. The 2009 event will take place March 29-31, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center in Las Vegas.

"Both gentlemen have served IPC in various leadership roles over the past few years. John and Leo's peers elected them to these prominent council positions after recognizing their commitment to IPC and industry," said Tony Hilvers, IPC vice president of industry programs.
