NAM praises Senator for support of bill amendment.

May 15, 2008 - The NAM praised Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) for voting to support an amendment offered by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to the pending flood insurance bill that would expand America's energy supplies. According to NAM Executive VP Jay Timmons, Sen. Manufacturers Praise Sen. Landrieu for Voting to Lower Energy Prices and Create Jobs

Supports the McConnell Energy Amendment in U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 13, 2008 - The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) today praised Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) for voting to support an amendment offered by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to the pending flood insurance bill that would dramatically expand America's energy supplies.

The McConnell amendment would have allowed limited drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), sped the regulatory approval of refineries to lower energy prices and encouraged the development of alternative energies. The amendment (SA 4720) was defeated by a vote of 42-56.

"Sen. Landrieu rose above internal party politics to support a sensible federal energy strategy to increase supplies and lower costs for America's manufacturers and their workers," said NAM Executive Vice President Jay Timmons. "Manufacturers in Louisiana and across the nation thank Sen. Landrieu for supporting energy policies that will expand domestic production and lower costs for U.S. consumers and manufacturers, which use roughly one-third of our nation's energy," he said.

"The NAM will continue to work with Sen. Landrieu to advance practical solutions to America's energy needs. Sen. Landrieu demonstrated by her vote today that she understands how a comprehensive domestic energy policy can help lower energy prices, create jobs and get our economy back on track. She has proven that all issues do not have to be viewed through a political prism. Her courageous independence shows that there is, indeed, a 'third way' for our elected leaders," Timmons concluded.

The National Association of Manufacturers is the nation's largest industrial trade association, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NAM has 11 additional offices across the country.
