Press Release

Futek

Release date: May 7, 2008

FUTEK Increases Calibration Testing Capacity to 130,000 Lbs in Tension & Compression

FUTEK Advanced Sensor Technology, Inc (www.futek.com) is pleased to announce the addition of their new custom designed INSTRON Model 600LX Hydraulic Testing Machine to their A2LA 17025 certified calibration department. This addition will increase FUTEK's testing capacity to 130,000 lbs (58,967 kgs, 578KN) in both tension and compression in a single test space design. This allows FUTEK technicians to fixture once and test in both tension and compression, known as "fixture once, test once." The maximum test, or ram speed is 3 inches (76mm) per minute with integrated controls and data acquisition signal processing.

The test envelope dimensions of the machine are 24 inches (610mm) between columns and a custom-designed 61.25 inches (1556mm) between the hydraulically driven crosshead and load piston. This new addition will increase FUTEKS calibration department's capabilities by 155%, making Futek one of the leading calibration houses in Southern California for accuracy and speed of service.

The system uses a custom designed dual bridge high accuracy independent strain gage load cell for measuring the applied test force. Channel 1 is a closed loop with the internal system; the second channel is mated with a high-resolution 100,000-count display from BLH. Being independent of the machines hydraulic unit removes any error due to ram friction that may exist and allows for its removal and deadweight calibration of the load cell, which in turn improves the accuracy. This yields impressive results concerning linearity, repeatability and an overall expanded uncertainty of 0.037%. The hydraulic actuator has a working stroke of 12 in (305mm) with anti rotation device. The two uprights are a custom design with an additional two feet of stroke.

The hydraulically driven crosshead has hydraulic actuated locks. The programming software will allow FUTEK to write and develop custom calibration programs for individual customer units and OEM accounts. This will decrease the per unit calibration time, which in turn will get the customers unit to them in record time. This addition is only the start for FUTEK's calibration department; other plans of expansion are on the drawing board and are to be implemented soon.

In addition to our Calibration Services FUTEK also has an in house engineering and manufacturing team. Hence, FUTEK can provide a complete system solution (load cells, torque sensors, force sensors, pressure sensors, and instruments) with standard product, or custom design a completely new model to meet your needs. Our team can help you meet your requirements for any test stand, process control application or low cost OEM requirements no matter what industry you're in.
