SAVE THE DATE: ANSI Announces 2008 Open Forum for Standards Developers
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will host the 2008 Open Forum for Standards Developers on June 24 - 25, 2008, at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC.
The event is the fourth in a series of ANSI-sponsored forums to foster open exchange between and among standards developing organizations (SDOs), consortia, stakeholders in the standards industry, consumers, and policy makers. An open survey launched in March 2008 offered an opportunity for interested stakeholders to help shape the program content, including primary discussion topics.
This year's Open Forum will address the future of standardization, as well as opportunities for cooperation and collaboration among colleagues in the industry. Primary discussion topics, chosen for their significance to standards communities and the interests shown in the open survey results, include:
o current and upcoming challenges influencing the business of standard setting o the pros and cons of collaboration with other standards setting organizations (SSOs) how to allow for and support innovation in the standard-setting arena o best practices and techniques in improving standards development processes, keeping the playing field fair and open, etc.
Additional topics that may also be covered include:
o updates on Intellectual Property Rights and other legal issues impacting SSOs o interfacing with government o increasing awareness of standard-setting, as well as the resulting products and service, through education and outreach
"The 2008 Open Forum will have an overall focus on open discussion and information sharing," said Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. "This format will provide an open and neutral forum where all voices from the standardization community can be heard." ANSI is inviting all interested parties - including ANSI-accredited and non-ANSI accredited organizations - to save the following dates:
Tuesday, June 24: Half Day (pm) and Social Event Wednesday, June 25: Full Day
Advance registration for the 2008 Open Forum will be required. Details on registration, fees, program topics, and more will be posted on ANSI's Event Page in the coming weeks.
The 2007 Open Forum for Standards Developers, held in Boston on June 27, 2007, was a highly interactive event attended by representatives from many consortia and standards-setting organizations (SSOs). Topics covered included intellectual property rights issues, the challenges of achieving worldwide recognition of standards, and the business and financial aspects of SSOs.
