PJM's Capacity Auction shows increase in power generation.

In response to announcement by PJM Interconnection regarding results of 4th residual auction for capacity, John E. Shelk, President and CEO of EPSA, stated that results show competitive wholesale markets and power suppliers are responding to need for more electricity, efficiency, and reliability. Competitive power suppliers responded to PJM's forward capacity auction to contribute to record increase in amount of generation available to meet consumers' needs.
PJM's Capacity Auction Shows Competitive Power Suppliers Are Responding to Meet Future Needs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - John E. Shelk, president and CEO of the Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA) issued the following statement in response to todays announcement by the PJM Interconnection of the results of its fourth residual auction for capacity for planning year June 2010 through May 2011:
"Todays PJM auction results show that competitive wholesale markets and power suppliers are responding to the need for more electricity, efficiency and reliability. Competitive power suppliers responded to PJM's forward capacity auction to contribute to a record increase in the amount of generation available to meet consumers' needs. This is a significant response by competitive power suppliers, which was facilitated by the market signals that the capacity auction helped provide. Competitive power suppliers continue to improve the environment, enhance reliability, empower consumers and advance innovation."
PJM coordinates and directs the reliability of the electrical system that serves 51 million people in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. PJM uses the Reliability Pricing Model for its capacity auction. The next PJM forward capacity auction will take place in May 2008 for the delivery year 2011-2012. The results of PJM's auction are posted on its Web site at www.pjm.com.
