Operations Team Succeeds in System Transformation that Delivers Enhanced Capabilities for Supply Chain Visibility

HERNDON, Va., Feb. 7 / / -- Exostar, the Trusted Workspace for secure multi-enterprise collaboration for the aerospace and defense (A&D) industry, announces the successful completion of the full-scale deployment and migration to its new Supply Chain Platform (SCP). After eighteen months of planning, testing and preparations, Exostar has migrated its global customer community off of the legacy "Supply Pass" system. The migration affected more than 30,000 companies and 45,000 users worldwide. Completed in October, 2007, this migration now enables the extended Exostar community to leverage the broad capabilities of the Supply Chain Platform, powered by software from E2open.

Since its initial deployment in 2000, the Exostar platform has become a business critical infrastructure for large customers and their supplier partners. Prime Contractors like BAE Systems, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Rolls-Royce share purchase orders, production schedules and other key information with their suppliers, making Exostar a foundation of their supply chain communications. While Exostar developed the legacy CommerceOne- based technology ("Supply Pass") to handle basic procurement transactions, it lacked the robust supply chain enablement capabilities necessary to meet customer's increasingly sophisticated requirements. The successful migration of customers and data to the new Supply Chain Platform provides the Exostar community significantly improved capabilities delivered through a software as a service (SaaS) model within Exostar's secure Trusted Workspace.

"Exostar is an important production system for Boeing, our partners and suppliers," said Ron Shelley, Boeing vice president of Supplier Management for Integrated Defense Systems and Global Sourcing. "Boeing is pleased that the Exostar team could guide customers and users through this complex system migration so smoothly."

The two-year effort included a carefully orchestrated migration of production data and users over the course of four months from July to October. The scope of the migration included more than 13 million procurement and planning documents, 2 terabytes of production data and 45,000 user accounts. At the same time, Exostar planned a comprehensive user transition addressing communication, training and customer care. The migration was executed in five waves to ensure full on-going production capabilities and user support for a smooth transition.

"This migration was one of the most complex efforts Exostar has tackled in its seven years of business," said Chris Borneman, Exostar CTO and COO. "From operations, to engineering, customer service, and even sales and product management - the entire team was involved in executing on this critical effort. This proves that thoughtful planning, close collaboration with customers and a great team can make even the biggest migration effort a success."

With the Supply Chain Platform in production, Exostar customers now have access to a comprehensive, hosted solution that enables visibility of operations and supply chain performance throughout multiple partner tiers. Organizations can achieve the necessary level of process integration to eliminate potential shortages, reduce obsolete inventory, track deliveries, proactively evaluate exceptions and automatically trigger replenishment cycles. Additionally, through the deployment of Exostar's new single sign-on capability (Secure Identity Gateway), Exostar customers can now manage user profiles for access to SCP and other Exostar on-demand solutions.
