Restoration Industry Association

Release date: December 6, 2007

Restoration Industry Association Adds New Leaders to Board

Columbia, MD - The Restoration Industry Association (RIA - formerly ASCR) has announced the appointment of two additional members to its Board of Directors.

Frank Headen, CR, WLS, CMH, of First Restoration Services, Inc. (Charlotte, N.C.), and John L. Volkert, CR, WLS, of Primo Clean Restorative Services (Lodi, Calif.), will serve as directors of the association.

Headen, who is Chairman and CEO of First Restoration Services, and President of Disaster Rental and Supply, has decades of experience in the industry, working on many high-profile projects such as the Pentagon (Washington, D.C.) and World Trade Center Tower 7 (New York, N.Y.), following 9-11; the NASA facilities at the Kennedy Space Center (Florida); the FBI Headquarters and Hyatt Regency Hotel (New Orleans, La.), following Hurricane Katrina; the Biltmore House (Asheville, S.C.), following a fire in its carpenter shop; the EPA Headquarters and FBI Washington Field Office (Washington, D.C.); and the Prince George's Metro Center (Hyattsville, Md.) following severe flooding and heavy rains. He also holds many professional designations and affiliations.

In 2006, First Restoration Services won the 2006 Chrysalis Award for "Southern Remodeler of the Year" and "North Carolina State Remodeler of the Year." Headen is also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association and retired from the Board of Trustees of Outward Bound.

Volkert has been involved in the restoration industry for 27 years and is the owner of Primo Clean Restorative Services. The company has completed more than 5,000 water damage and 1,850 smoke damage projects over the years. Some of their major projects have included: General Mills (Lodi, Calif.); Macy's (Sacramento, Calif.); Hyatt Regency (Stockton, Calif.); Kaiser Permanente (Stockton) and Target (Modesto, Calif.).

"After all of the years I have been in restoration, I believe it is time to give back to the organization that has done so much for our business and the lifelong friends I've made in RIA," said Volkert of his appointment. "I would like to help other members overcome limitations and reach the full potential of their profession."

Graham Dick, CMP, of Genesis Restorations Ltd. (Surrey, BC) has taken on the added responsibility of serving as the RIA Treasurer as well as secretary. An RIA member for almost 10 years, Genesis has managed a number of large and unusual projects as well, including the restoration and drying of a gymnasium floor for St. Patrick's High School (Vancouver, B.C.); cleaning cruise ships for Princess Cruise Lines (Vancouver) following outbreaks of the norovirus; and high risk asbestos abatement following a shotgun suicide.

"RIA is fortunate to have such respected and knowledgeable individuals serving the association," said RIA President Gary Dooner, CR. "The level of experience these individuals provide is indicative of the depth found with both our members and staff as we position RIA for further growth."

The Restoration Industry Association (formerly the Association of Specialists in Cleaning & Restoration) has member firms worldwide. RIA provides industry leadership, supports science, and promotes best practices for cleaning and restoration. More information is available on the RIA website: www.restorationindustry.org.
