Climax Portable Machine Tools Inc.

Release date: January 11, 2007

Climax Portable Machine Tools Expands On-Site Machine Tool Training Programs

Courses meet the increasing demand for skilled machinists

Newberg, Oregon January 11, 2007 -Machine Tools, Inc., a strategic provider of comprehensive, on-site machining solutions, announces today its expanded on-site machine tool training program provided by The Portable Machining Training Institute, a division of Climax. The expansion of the training program is designed to meet the critical need for a greater number of skilled machinists in various industries, including mining and heavy construction, civil engineering, shipbuilding, and power generation. The company has doubled the faculty of the Institute, and plans to enlarge its training facility this year.

The shortage of skilled machinists and engineers is one of the critical issues that affect the productivity and profitability of various industries. According to the most recent data provided in "Skills Gap Report - A Survey of the American Manufacturing Workforce" conducted by National Association of Manufacturers in 2005, 90% of respondents reported experiencing shortages of skilled production employees1. Climax has developed training programs for all skill levels, including basic on-site machine tool operation, advanced applications and techniques, and Train-the-Trainer programs that allow trained individuals to pass on their skills to other employees at the job site.

"To remain competitive in today's fast-moving and increasingly demanding global economy, companies must have access to the most up-to-date equipment and a highly-skilled workforce," said Andy Becker, Vice President of Marketing. "Through the combination of our innovative machines and training programs, Climax helps our customers maximize uptime of equipment, shorten maintenance time, and increase productivity and profits."

Two-day training sessions cover areas such as operator safety, tool component review and usage, tool geometry, and maintenance procedures. Climax also offers five-day intensive training courses where students learn the operation of five different on-site machine tool systems, including boring and borewelding, valve repair & refurbishment, milling systems, flange facing systems, and lathe systems. In addition, Climax offers three-day intensive training sessions specifically for the needs of the shipbuilding industry. Schedules and course content can be customized depending on customer needs, and can take place either at the Portable Machining Training Institute in Newberg, Oregon or at the customer's location.

The Training Institute has been offering top-rated courses since 2002, and is equipped with state-of-the art machine tools and equipment. The expansion of the training facility at its worldwide headquarters in Newberg will allow Climax to offer additional programs devoted to hands-on activities and skills development. Companies such as Caterpillar, Toshiba, Peterson Tractor Company, and Northrop Grumman have participated in these training sessions.

The Portable Machining Training Institute is headed by Nick Cole, Assembly and Training Manager, and all programs are taught by a team of dedicated instructors with specialized experience in industries such as construction, service and civil infrastructure, power generation and shipbuilding.

Details of the training programs are available at http://cpmt.com/exp_train.php or by calling 503-538-2185 world-wide, or 800-333-8311 toll-free in North America. Individuals do not need to own Climax tools to participate in any of the courses.
