Press Release

ERNI Electronics, Inc.

Release date: August 30, 2007

ERNI Electronics Expands Family of M8/M12 Products

Broad Suite of Accessories and Ready-Assembled Cable Connectors Extends Range of Applications in Industrial Automation

ADELBERG, GERMANY - August 30, 2007 - In 2004, ERNI Electronics launched its first M12 round connector using SMT connection technology for printed circuit board assembly. This was succeeded by versions that featured different pin counts, D-coding for Industrial Ethernet, B-coding for field bus applications, and A-coded 8-pin versions. ERNI is now expanding its M8/M12 family of products with a comprehensive selection of accessories, ranging from ready-assembled connecting cables, distributors and adapters to components using quick-connect terminal technology. This completes a portfolio that connects sensors and actuators via field buses in industrial automation.

M12 connectors are now recommended for almost all field bus specifications, including Profibus, Interbus, and CANopen. With their IP67 protection rating, they are specifically designed for tough, high-moisture industrial environments, and are traditionally used for the connection of sensors and actuators in automation technology. Amendment 1 of the IEC 61076 2 101 standard specifies a 4-pin D-coded version for Industrial Ethernet applications. Whereas previously actuators and sensors were primarily regulated by control systems in the switch cabinet, using I/O cards, widespread use is now being made of field devices fitted with local I/Os and connected via field buses. In response to this trend, ERNI has added cable systems for M8/M12 round connectors to its range of printed circuit boards. These are produced in a variety of modules, pin configurations, cable lengths and cable qualities for the most cost-effective and optimised automation solution.

ERNI Electronics has produced a new catalogue to present its latest portfolio of M8/M12 cable systems. All the components conform to protection class IP67and are resistant to shock and vibration, resulting in reliable connections. The ready-assembled cables are made of PVC with different coloured LEDs indicating the operating voltage and switching status. For particularly demanding specifications, polyurethane cables are also available, which are not only resistant to lubricants and coolants, but also have excellent capacity to withstand abrasion, making them ideal for use as ground cables. The standard connecting cables are fitted with a self-locking screw fastening. However, we can also supply ready-to-assemble round connectors using quick-connect terminal technology (without tools). T-distributors (male/female), adapters (M8 to M12 and vice versa) and switch cabinet lead-throughs complete the full product range.

ERNI Electronics's new M8/M12 cable systems are available immediately. For pricing, please contact ERNI Electronics (www.erni.com), or your local distributor.
