Psion Teklogix Corp.

Release date: April 30, 2007

Psion Teklogix Partners with Identec Solutions for Active RFID Technology

Orlando, Florida (RFID Journal Live! 2007) - April 30, 2007 - Psion Teklogix (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing, wireless data collection, imaging and RFID, today announced a partnership with Identec Solutions, the global leader in wireless tracking and tracing products. Under the partnership, Psion Teklogix will market IDENTEC's intelligent long-range RFID technology in conjunction with the Psion Teklogix' WORKABOUT PRO and 7535 rugged handheld computing devices. The new partnership will result in lower implementation costs for customers and enable them to maximize returns on their RFID investments due to an additional option for RFID technology.

"Partnering with IDENTEC SOLUTIONS enables us to bolster our current product portfolio by adding active, long-range RFID capability to the WORKABOUT PRO and 7535," said Ron Caines, president, Americas at Psion Teklogix. "We are excited to provide our global customers with an additional RFID technology option."

Designed for performance in a range of data collection needs, the rugged and durable WORKABOUT PRO is a flexible, programmable and expandable portable data collection terminal. The 7535 is a rugged PC handheld computer designed to perform in the harshest conditions in warehouse, manufacturing facility, yard, distribution centre, or port.

Intelligent long-range (ILR) active RFID was first introduced in 1998 and is specifically designed for use in challenging environments such as those found in the transportation and manufacturing industries. It works at a span of up to approximately 100 meters or 300 feet, compared to passive RFID, which works at a span of only one to three meters. With its low power levels, it also helps users to conserve energy. Active long-range RFID technology provides industry-leading reliability and a lower total cost of ownership, and operates on a variety of standards and protocols in order to help users meet regional requirements.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Psion Teklogix," said Peter Linke, president and CEO for North America, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS. "By combining our patented Intelligent Long Range technology with Psion Teklogix' WORKABOUT PRO and Psion Teklogix' 7535, customers within the supply chain environment will ultimately experience greater control and enhanced efficiencies."

IDENTEC SOLUTIONS offers its clients two different types of active tagging. True active tags enables users to work with RFID over greater distances, helping them to do their jobs faster and more securely. The call-response tags remain passive until requested to be active during the scanning process. This allows customers in rugged environments, such as manufacturing sites and ports, additional flexibility. For example, Oakland, CA-based Navis, one of the world's leading suppliers of software solutions for the port industry, has begun to use the new solution in several key projects.

"The IDENTEC SOLUTIONS product suite has offered Navis unprecedented flexibility in deploying active RFID technology for the marine terminal industry," said Michael Dempsey, Vice President, Automation and Edge Technology Solutions at Navis,. "We have multiple large-scale projects in process for gate and container yard automation which required rugged, extended-battery life tags combined with long-range read capability. Only IDENTEC met our client's needs."
