Hoefer

Release date: November 7, 2006

Hoefer Introduces The ULTima Line of Imaging Products for Documentation and Analysis of Gels and Blots

The Hoefer ULTima imaging platform, incorporating the latest advances in electronics and optics, provides a fast, easy-to-use and affordable gel documentation system with superior dynamic range for proteomic and genomic applications. ULTima's unique image positioning system uses patented optics to enable simple, accurate positioning with no loss of optical resolution and no need to open the cabinet or manually adjust a fragile gel. The slant-correction feature permits optical rotation of the sample for optimum lane detection, without touching the gel.

All but the basic model offer a real 16-bit dynamic range, representing 65,536 different grey levels. This gives much more precise quantification than most other systems, as well as shorter exposure times for chemiluminescent images.

Handling the most demanding applications without the need for an expensive laser scanning system, the multitasking ULTima has a small footprint and is fully equipped for GLP validation and verification. The filter changer accommodates up to five filters, while an optional Optix epi-illumination module enables excitation of fluorophores within the VIS/NIR range.

Each of the four models - ULTima 10si, 16si, 16si Plus and Pro - is fully upgradeable as research needs change and budget allows. All come with ethidium bromide filter and ULTima AQ control and image acquisition software. One-button analysis with the researcher's choice of analysis package provides flexibility and ease of use. According to Hugh Douglas, Managing Director of Hoefer, Inc., 'There is a widespread need for a system which is fast, highly resolving and straightforward to use. ULTima imaging systems are robot-ready for large image format (21 x 26 cm) 2D analyses and will have a broad range of applications in life science, clinical, pharmaceutical, agro, veterinary and forensic labs.'

For over 35 years Hoefer, Inc., the premier supplier of gel electrophoresis equipment and related products, has been recognised as an innovator. Today, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Harvard Bioscience, the company's mission is to offer scientists high quality products that are intelligently designed and easy to use, yielding consistent and reproducible protein and nucleic acid electrophoretic separations. Hoefer, Inc. designs, manufactures and distributes an expanding line of instruments, accessories and consumables, and its distinctive products can be found in laboratories all around the world. For details on the ULTima please write to Ramana Tadepalli, Director of Marketing and Sales at Ramana.Tadepalli@hoeferinc.com or visit their website by selecting the link ULTima- the ULTimate in Gel and Blot Imaging.
