New O-Ring Compound Provides Excellent Resistance to EOG Industry Hazards
December 12, 2006 - Parker Seal Group's O-Ring Division has developed the new VP104-85 compound for O-rings and other rubber seals for the energy, oil and gas markets.
The new material, which uses the successfully-tested Solvay Solexis BR 9151 polymer, is resistant to sour gas, acids, bases, hydrocarbons, hot water, steam, amines, and methanol. It also is explosive decompression resistant.
Traditional fluorocarbon compounds are limited in their compatibility with sour gas and many of these other chemistries do not provide good resistance to bases, hot water, amines, steam, or methanol. VP104-85's features combine to make the material an ideal choice for O-rings and seals used for offshore drilling, exploration and production applications, including drilling mud, some completion fluids, brine, sour gas and crude oil.
