Bridging Gap Between Process and Discrete Applications Key Highlight at Automation Fair Event
Rockwell Automation will highlight new process product developments, as well as its partnership with Endress+Hauser
BALTIMORE, Oct. 25, 2006 - Understanding how to bridge the gap between process and packaging applications is a key highlight at the Automation Fair event this year. Rockwell Automation is showcasing four new product features that enhance integration, discussing its partnership with Endress+Hauser, one of the world's leading suppliers of process instruments, and unveiling migration plans for legacy DCS systems.
"Eighty percent of plants have both process and discrete functions; however, the majority of manufacturers rely on different control platforms for different functions throughout the controls environment," said Kevin Zaba, process business manager, Rockwell Automation. "By using a common control platform for both process and discrete applications, manufacturers are able to significantly increase productivity, reduce costs and improve ease of use across the plant floor."
Process solutions, which are featured in the Integrated Architecture booth, showcase the overall system capabilities from Rockwell Automation, batch tools, safety systems, advanced process control capabilities and migration solutions for legacy PLCs and DCS systems. The booth will also highlight:
o User-defined Add-on Instructions - The newest version of RSLogix 5000 programming software enables users to create and reuse custom instructions. This feature is especially significant for users with frequently-used control algorithms and strategies. These add-on instructions can also include device profiles, parameters and tags from the extensive RSLogix 5000 object library. This helps reduce variances in coding, enhances program readability and promotes consistency between projects.
o RSLogix 5000 FuzzyDesigner - As an add-on software package to RSLogix 5000, FuzzyDesigner allows users to create their own fuzzy logic algorithms for use with the Logix controller family. The software encapsulates knowledge in complex processes with nonlinearities to create a usable control algorithm. FuzzyDesigner offers a fuzzy logic design environment, which allows users to rapidly create very powerful and advanced control methods that would have previously required a significant amount of detailed programming.
o Analog I/O Modules for HART - New analog I/O modules from Rockwell Automation are now available for HART, the leading communication technology used with smart process instrumentation. The new I/O modules eliminate the need to use HART multiplexers between field devices, allowing data to be brought directly into the control system. For example, communication device type managers from Rockwell Automation can be used to facilitate communication between Endress+Hauser FieldCare devices and HART devices.
o VersaBatch - Designed for OEMs and small batch applications, the Rockwell Software VersaBatch bundles a VersaView computer and batch software, RSBizWareBatch, e-procedure and RSLinx Classic OEM version. Unlike most batch solutions, which place the software in a PC far from the factory floor, VersaBatch generally resides in a CPU next to the programmable controller, significantly easing data availability, operation and maintenance.
The process solution track also will highlight the alliance between Rockwell Automation and Endress+Hauser. The alliance provides manufacturers with a wide range of pre-integrated, pretested, standards-based measurement, automation and information solutions, leveraging control and information solutions from Rockwell Automation and process instruments from Endress+Hauser. The alliance enables customers to reduce integration costs, improve operational and maintenance efficiency, and optimize plant assets.
