BorgWarner to Showcase All-Wheel Drive Expertise at 2006 SAE AWD Symposium
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 21 -- BorgWarner's (NYSE: BWA) industry-leading capabilities in all-wheel drive (AWD) technology and vehicle dynamics will be spotlighted at the 2006 Society of Automotive Engineers AWD Symposium August 22 and 23, at the Transportation Research Center (TRC) in East Liberty, Ohio.
"OEMs all over the world, and the people who drive the vehicles they make, rely on the benefits of enhanced vehicle traction, stability and handling that our systems provide," said Cindy Niekamp, President and General Manager, BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems. "As a global leader in advanced front-wheel and rear-wheel based all-wheel drive technology, we are proud to showcase our growing capabilities at this important event."
At 8:30 a.m. on August 22, BorgWarner will present "Development of an AWD Coupling and Controls System for a High-Performance Sports Car", a technical presentation that provides an overview of the BorgWarner ITM 3e(TM) system integration in this high-performance production sports car. In the application, the ITM 3e(TM) system delivers uncompromising torque accuracy, thermal capacity, and outstanding response, providing this high-powered rear- drive platform with the required on-demand torque transfer to the front axle. Combining this with BorgWarner's vehicle dynamics controls provides a more secure and stable vehicle driving behavior while maximizing vehicle performance for the ultimate driving experience. Similar versions of this technology debuted last year on the Hyundai Santa Fe, and will be standard on the recently introduced 2007 model year Chrysler Pacifica with AWD.
On August 24 at the TRC, BorgWarner will offer guests an exceptional opportunity at a unique test-track venue to experience the ways in which BorgWarner technologies enhance the driving experience. Demonstration vehicles will include a Porsche Cayenne with PreEmptive Torque Management(TM) (PTM(TM)) on-demand AWD; an Audi A3 with PTM(TM) on-demand AWD and rear eLSD; and a Volvo S60 with NexTrac(TM) on-demand AWD. These systems are among the most advanced next-generation interactive technologies available and are part of BorgWarner's growing iTrac(TM) torque management systems portfolio, a full- line of active torque management devices focused on the needs of the expanding front-wheel drive/all-wheel drive market.
In addition, BorgWarner will showcase its PreEmptive Torque Management(TM) and NexTrac(TM) technologies through video and interactive displays at the symposium, and will sponsor an August 23 evening reception at the Tree Links Golf Course. For more details, visit http://www.sae.org/awd.
