ND SatCom and LCDC Telecoms Implement Enterprise Network in Africa
Oil Company Maurel & Prom Benefits from SkyWAN® Technology Friedrichshafen/Evry, October 5, 2006 - ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company and a leading global supplier of satellite-based broadband VSAT, broadcast, government and defence communication network solutions, has been awarded a contract for VSAT systems from Evry (France) based LCDC Telecoms. The French VSAT service provider supplies the end customer Maurel & Prom, one of the leading independent listed oil companies in Europe, with ND SatCom's SkyWAN® technology for its enterprise network in Central and East Africa. The VSAT system for voice and data covers the countries of Gabon, Congo and Tanzania.
"We chose ND SatCom's SkyWAN® for the project as it is, for us, the most suitable product for a corporate network. SkyWAN® is a tried and tested technology with a history of reliability", says Johann Vovan, Sales Support Manager of LCDC Telecoms. Additionally, in terms of network transportation of VoIP, SkyWAN® is the only equipment that can connect a network in a mesh configuration when there is only one satellite hop between terminals. "With our experience in the supervision of networks, LCDC Telecoms has been researching various satellite platforms, and we chose ND SatCom as the preferred technology partner for corporate networks", Ahmed Aggar, Head of Operations of LCDC Telecoms adds.
Dr. Gerhard Bommas, CTO of ND SatCom, emphasises that the SkyWAN® network offers all possibilities of interfaces used in the oil industry. He adds: "Although C-Band is mainly used in tropical areas with heavy rainfalls, we recommended that LCDC Telecoms use Ku-Band. This decision marks a substantial cost reduction. What makes our SkyWAN® system unique is its mix of services together with our Uplink Power Control, which automatically increases transmission power and ensures continued operation during heavy rain."
