StorageCraft ShadowProtect Desktop Edition Available - Automatic Online Backup and Disaster Recovery
DRAPER, Utah, U.S.A. - StorageCraft Technology Corporation, a provider of innovative security, disaster recovery and data protection solutions for servers and PCs, today announced it has released its disk-based point-in-time backup and disaster recovery software, ShadowProtect Server Edition(TM) and ShadowProtect Desktop Edition(TM).
ShadowProtect gives IT administrators a way to generate backups of Windows servers, PCs and laptops by creating an exact point-in-time backup image of a complete system or a specific volume, without any downtime. ShadowProtect also allows for bare metal recovery of Windows systems in minutes.
"By using Microsoft's advanced backup framework, VSS, ShadowProtect creates a more reliable full or incremental backup of an entire system, including applications and data, such as Exchange and SQL Server," said Scott Barnes, Chief Technology Officer for StorageCraft Technology Corporation. "With ShadowProtect incremental backups, only the changed sectors are imaged, so more point-in-time backups can be taken at regular intervals during the business day."
ShadowProtect allows administrators to schedule full or incremental point-in-time backups, while the system is still online. These images are compressed and encrypted ensuring they are securely stored until needed, in the event of an accident or disaster.
Administrators can mount the point-in-time backups as a separate drive or mount point so it is easy to restore individual files or folders, by simply dragging and dropping them to the desired location.
With ShadowProtect, it's also possible to update an existing point-in-time backup. This means an administrator can mount a backup image before restoring it, run a virus scan and fix the backup, should a virus be detected.

ShadowProtect Server Edition ShadowProtect Server Edition gives IT administrators the flexibility of scheduling full or incremental backups so they can automatically protect the systems in their environment. In addition, ShadowProtect allows administrators to perform bare metal recovery of servers in the event of a disaster.
ShadowProtect allows IT administrators to:
· Create active point-in-time backups-scan, share, update or work with any backup image as if it were the original volume
· Mount thousands of point-in-time backups simultaneously, simplifying file and folder recovery
· Create and restore ExactState(TM) images from the StorageCraft Recovery Environment(TM)
· Take snapshots of multiple volumes simultaneously and back them up at the same time, reducing the time required to back up
· Remotely control the disaster recovery process without the need to purchase additional software
· Enhance database backups such as Exchange and SQL using Microsoft VSS
· Backup only changed data, if desired, to minimize storage consumption
· Consolidate point-in-time backups for simplified image management
· Create crash-proof incrementals-continue incremental backups even following a system crash
· Backup to any disk-based storage device, such as a SAN, NAS, RAID, USB or FireWire.

ShadowProtect Desktop Edition StorageCraft is also releasing ShadowProtect Desktop Edition, which allows administrators and authorized users to create an exact backup of a laptop or desktop while the PC is still running. Users can keep on working while ShadowProtect Desktop Edition creates a point-in-time backup of the complete system - including OS, applications and personal files. These backups can be scheduled and saved to any disk device, including network drives.
This allows users to restore their systems to an exact point in time or perform fast bare metal recovery. In the event of a disaster, ShadowProtect Desktop Edition also allows remote recovery of the PC.
