At the summit, prominent building industry executives from the United Kingdom, Europe, and Dubai gathered to discuss new technology-enabled design methods that are rapidly reshaping the building professions. These leaders in architecture, engineering, and construction shared Building Information Modeling (BIM) best practices and exchanged ideas in think tank sessions on where this technology and its application are headed.
The application of BIM is growing more common and critical in the practices of these firms. The extensive capabilities and significant benefits of BIM become particularly apparent in projects exhibiting comprehensive scope of design and construction, such as the development of infrastructure for Olympic venues.
At the summit, J. Parrish of Arup Sport reviewed the use of BIM for the design and operation of facilities at the Olympic Games and other major events. His presentation was followed by Lord Coe's keynote on the critical importance of infrastructure for the 2012 Olympics.
Other speakers at this full-day event included representatives from Al-Futtaim Carillion, Building Design Partnership, Dubai Festival City, Foster and Partners, Hamilton Associates, Keppie Design, PLH arkitekter, Richard Rogers Partnership, Whitbybird, and Zisman Bowyer & Partners.
