Dürr Paint Systems Integrates Safety Into its Standard Control System With Allen-Bradley GuardLogix Controller

GuardLogix improves operational efficiency while helping Dürr with safety in their Robotic Paint Systems offering

MILWAUKEE, June 26, 2006 - The newest high-tech paint system from Dürr Paint Systems uses the new Allen-Bradley GuardLogix integrated safety controller from Rockwell Automation to enhance operator safety, speed system installation and reduce engineering costs. Featuring an improved, modular design, the new EcoRP E32 robotic paint system is capable of producing high-quality painting with maximum flexibility for a wide range of automotive applications.

With its compact, modular design, enhanced paint accuracy and integrated safety features-made possible by GuardLogix-the EcoRP E32 is ideal for older paint shops needing to retrofit their equipment. "We wanted to implement the newest in controller innovation with safety standards in mind," said Dany Rheault, manager, software engineering, Dürr. "GuardLogix was the most logical choice not just for the integrated safety features, but also because we have a great relationship with Rockwell Automation, and its products are widely accepted by our customers."

The new Allen-Bradley GuardLogix controller combines safety control functionality with the popular Logix control platform, helping users reduce costs and improve productivity. Featuring an integrated safety architecture, GuardLogix is TUV certified and rated up to a Safety Integrity Level of CAT 4(EN 954) SIL 3 (EN 61508). As TUV certified, these ratings meet or exceed machine and process safety applications.

Using GuardLogix with DeviceNet Safety and distributed Safety I/O allows Dürr to easily integrate safety into its standard control system. The ability to perform both standard and safety control functions within a common chassis sharing a common backplane and with DeviceNet Safety, eliminates the need for an additional safety network or another stand-alone safety controller.

"With a standard programming environment that's simple to use and a platform that requires fewer interfaces, GuardLogix makes safety control even easier for manufacturers," said Kevin Colloton, GuardLogix product manager, Rockwell Automation. "More importantly, the reduced number of components and improved modularity allows users to accelerate installation and startup and cut engineering costs significantly."

GuardLogix is available for purchase today and is currently shipping.
