ND SatCom Deploys Telemedicine Solution in Kazakhstan
Friedrichshafen, June 20, 2006 - ND SatCom, a leading global supplier of satellite-based broadband VSAT, broadcast and defence communication network solutions, delivered 16 SkyWAN® terminals which support telemedicine applications in Kazakhstan. It is a telemedicine pilot project which has been implemented in two of the 17 Kazakh regions. A follow-up contract has been awarded just recently which contains further 22 terminals in three other regions.
In Kazakhstan, SkyWAN® connects medical centers, hospitals and medical universities throughout the country. Due to Kazakhstan's lack of terrestrial infrastructure in remote areas, satellite communication is the only solution for fast and reliable connections between rural areas and urban medical institutions. ND SatCom's telemedicine solution enables telephoning, videoconferencing and the exchange of medical data, such as the latest research findings in databases. Applications which are supported by the system include live operations and emergency teleconferencing.
