Promethean Donates Six Activclassrooms to Schools Impacted by Hurricane Katrina; Works with Cisco Systems to Rebuild and Improve Others ATLANTA, May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Promethean has donated six complete Promethean Activclassroom solutions valued at nearly $25,000 to two Mississippi schools affected by hurricane Katrina and is working with Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) in its $40 million initiative to help rebuild and improve 41 schools impacted by the storm in Mississippi and Louisiana.
"We are pleased to provide these schools interactive learning and assessment solutions that can help these communities and schools touched by Katrina not only get back on track, but also enhance their learning environment," said Promethean USA President Mark Elliott.
In addition to its donation, Promethean is active in Cisco's "21st Century Schools" initiative, a blueprint for reconstructing and improving schools that can be replicated across the country. The first phase of the program began with the Mississippi Education Initiative and included seven school districts and 33 schools, reaching more than 20,000 students. The second phase of the program, dubbed the Louisiana Education Initiative, will help build a world- class education system in Louisiana, beginning with eight schools within the Jefferson Parish Public School System, reaching 5,200 students.
The schools benefiting from the program were selected based on a number of different criteria ranging from the number of displaced students they are educating, to the leaderships' willingness and ability to drive change, to their demonstrated understanding of the value in using technology to help close the learning gap among students.
