MathStar

Release date: May 9, 2006

MathStar, Inc. Announces Machine Vision Library for the Field Programmable Object Array(TM) (FPOA(TM))

Machine Vision Leader Alacron Also Announces Selection of MathStar's FPOAs

BOSTON, The Vision Show East, May 9 / - MathStar, Inc. (NASDAQ:MATH) today announces the introduction of its Machine Vision Library for the Field Programmable Object Array (FPOA). The first two intellectual property cores in the Library are a Color Space Conversion core and a Flat Field Error Correction core. MathStar also announced that Alacron, Inc., a leading provider of frame grabber and accelerated frame grabber subsystems for the machine vision market, has become a customer for the FPOA.

When running on an FPOA, the Color Space Conversion core supports incoming pixel rates of 1-gigapixel per second. The Flat Field Error Correction core supports incoming pixel rates of 500-megapixels per second. As a point of reference, a pixel rate of 500-megapixels per second corresponds to a 2K by 2K resolution image sensor at 125 frames per second. Since the FPOA is a re-programmable device, it can be reconfigured in the field to support many different types of machine vision applications. The FPOA operates at speeds up to 1-gigahertz, making it two to four times faster than currently available field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

"MathStar's re-programmable FPOA can be used for a wide variety of machine vision applications," said Dan Sweeney, MathStar COO. "As machine vision cameras grow in both resolution and frame rate, existing FPGA performance is often insufficient. An FPOA operates at 1-gigahertz allowing machine vision manufacturers to keep up with ever-increasing image sensor performance."

"MathStar's FPOA technology enables a whole new class of machine vision products," said Joseph Sgro, CEO of Alacron, Inc. "Alacron has plans to develop a complete line of scalable, high-performance frame grabber and smart camera products around the FPOA."

The Machine Vision Library will be available directly from MathStar in the third quarter of 2006. For pricing and delivery options, please contact MathStar at www.mathstar.com or info@mathstar.com. MathStar will be exhibiting at the Machine Vision East conference May 9-11 in Boston, Mass., booth #117.

About MathStar's Field Programmable Object Array Technology

MathStar is a fabless semiconductor company that designs, manufactures and markets a new class of programmable logic chips called Field Programmable Object Arrays(TM) (FPOAs). FPOAs are high-performance, re-programmable integrated circuits based on proprietary Silicon Object(TM) technology. MathStar's re-programmable FPOA can process logic functions at a clock rate up to 1 gigahertz, much faster than current commercially available programmable logic devices. MathStar's flagship product, the MOA1400D FPOA, represents a powerful solution that is ideal for digital signal processing and filtering applications in the machine vision, video processing, medical imaging and military/aerospace markets. FPOAs are available now and supported by a wide range of development tools, libraries, application notes and technical documentation. For more information, please visit www.mathstar.com.
