3Com Names New Board Member

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.-- 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ: COMS) today announced that the company's Board of Directors has elected Dominique Trempont to serve as Class I director and member of the Board's Audit and Finance Committee. Trempont was elected by the Board on October 4, 2006. He is the seventh member of the 3Com Board of Directors.

"We are very fortunate to add someone of Dominique's background and experience to our Board," said 3Com Chairman, Eric Benhamou. "His financial expertise as well as his strong technology leadership skills will be a tremendous asset to our company."

In addition to his new position with the 3Com Board, Trempont is currently a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Finisar Corporation, a public technology company that develops high speed fiber optic data communication systems and test software for networks and storage. Trempont also serves on the Board of Directors of Cquay Technologies Corp, a private company that develops next generation search software. From 2003 to 2005, he was CEO-in-Residence at Battery Ventures, a venture capital firm. Prior to Battery Ventures, Trempont was Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Kanisa, Inc., a software company focused on customer self-service, contact center, and peer support applications. Trempont has served as Chief Executive Officer of Gemplus Corporation, a smart card application company, and Chief Financial Officer at NeXT Software.

Trempont received an undergraduate degree in Economics from College Saint Louis (Belgium), a bachelor's in Business Administration and Computer Sciences from IAG at the University of Louvain (Belgium) and a master's in Business Administration from INSEAD.

The company also today announced that Julie St. John informed the Board of her resignation as a member effective September 29, 2006. Her decision to leave relates solely to the limitation on board service as imposed by her new employer. With St. John's departure, the company will, for a brief period, not be compliant with Nasdaq's governance requirement to maintain three audit committee members. 3Com will regain compliance when Trempont officially joins the Audit and Finance Committee on October 9, 2006.
