MESA Members Unlock Operations Potential at 2010 North American Conference

June Conference brought together diverse attendees with common goals

Chandler, AZ - The Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA) announced today that their annual North American Conference was successful in bringing together manufacturers and producers from across the industrial landscape - representing discrete and continuous process environments alike - to share best practices on driving operations excellence. The event was held June 21 - 23, 2010 at the Ford Conference and Event Center, in Dearborn, Michigan and was hosted by Ford Motor Company.

"Our members' needs, experiences, perspectives and histories vary widely despite the common objectives that bring us together," said John Dyck, Board Chair of MESA International. "However, investing in technology and human capital to pursue Operations Excellence, take costs out of your operations, manage asset performance, or build a Real-Time Enterprise is relevant to manufacturers and producers in all industries. So, I believe this conference went very far in bringing value to people in various industries and with varied experience levels."

With members in 78 countries worldwide, MESA is an independent, objective association of like-minded people and companies working to make Operations more reliable, capable and profitable. MESA's annual conferences offer educational and networking opportunities for anyone who holds a stake in improving their organization's production performance. This year's North American event took attendees deep into some of the most pressing challenges and provided real-world, actionable steps that companies can take immediately.

"I believe the content delivered in Dearborn was some of the most compelling, pertinent information available for those who look to the Operations Management space to help them run their businesses better," commented Michael Yost, Conference Co-Chair and MESA Board of Directors member. "We believe that true value in Operations Management is realized through enabling technologies only when they intersect with the right operational practices. We also know that many MESA members have found this intersection - most likely through a series of trials and recalibrations - and they brought their experiences to Dearborn to show the entire MESA community how to get themselves into that intersection to stay."

MESA unveiled its new Educational Program during the conference's opening workshops and complemented the session with additional workshops covering topics such as: Justifying Operations Management Systems, Performance Management Benchmarks, and Optimizing Manufacturing with MES. These sessions were followed by an opening banquet featuring legendary coach and ESPN analyst Lou Holtz as the Keynote Speaker. Coach Holtz's "Game Plan for Success" presentation was regarded as one of the conference highlights and set a positive tone for the rest of the event.

Executive speakers from Keystone Foods, Marathon Petroleum, Freudenberg-NOK, Cordis, GM, GE, Network Engines and Micro Systems joined Ford Motor Company to explain how their companies have unlocked the potential in their operations to achieve extraordinary results. They were followed by several diverse, case study-centric sessions and MESA's first "Unconference" - a forum moderated by MESA with content driven by conference attendees based on their topics and challenges. MESA also announced its "Metrics Makeover Contest" in which the association will help winning companies implement the MESA Metrics Framework in their facility to tackle one of their most pressing metrics challenges.

"Having a manufacturer as our Corporate Host was a first for us, and it was very positive for everyone involved," continued Yost. "We are beginning our search now to find another manufacturer or producer who is dedicated to the Operations Management space and is interested in hosting our 2011 event. We'll announce the date and location as soon as we've finished that search."
