2009 BIO International Convention Looks Ahead to New Administration, Greater Innovation
Convention to address the economic status of the biotechnology industry
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Tuesday, February 24, 2009) - The 2009 BIO International Convention will address the challenges currently facing the market environment, as well as the many ways that biotechnology works to help heal, fuel, and feed the world and provide a cleaner environment. Hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), this year's global event for biotechnology will take place May 18-21 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
"The BIO International Convention represents the world's largest gathering of the biotech community, showcasing and connecting the people, companies and biotech-based innovations that help to improve life for the future," said Robbi Lycett, vice president of Conventions & Conferences at BIO. "Despite the current economy, senior-level executives will attend, partnering will be crucial and business deals will be made. This year's International Convention will involve domestic and international policymakers who will offer solutions to the many issues facing the biotech industry today."
The 2009 BIO International Convention will focus on research and development, partnership opportunities, and the new business models required to meet global health challenges. In addition, the Convention will focus on innovation and the BIO Exhibition will feature new Product Focus Zones including, BioIT, BioFuels, Business Services and Emerging Technologies.

o Biotech Intellectual Property at the Crossroads (which will identify key policy issues at the intersection of intellectual property and healthcare)
o Global Biotechnology Innovation: Connecting the Laboratory, the Field and the Marketplace (which will showcase the breadth of opportunities for public-private partnerships)
"BIO recognizes the vast changes in the marketplace since last year's Convention and applauds President Barack Obama's commitment to innovation and support for scientific discovery," said Lycett. "The 2009 Convention will offer thought leaders a unique venue to interact, collaborate and exchange ideas to help drive the global innovation economy.
Each year, the International Convention draws an average of 20,000 industry leaders from approximately 60 countries. This year, the Convention program will feature more than 150 sessions in 22 breakout session tracks. Sessions will address the most pressing issues facing biotech today, including healthcare pricing and access, capital formation and partnering strategies in a tight credit environment, and climate change and biofuels.
